The use of a cystoscope allows the doctor to view the ovaries through the vagina or any other reproductive organs.

Ovarian cystoscopy also involves the visualization of the external portion of the uterus using the cystoscope, where the doctor uses a tube to insert an endoscope camera and a tube to squeeze the abdomen to observe the ovary and the fallopian tubes. The cystoscope is similar to the mini telescope, except that it has a tube instead of a lens and has a tip rather than a tube for viewing the inside. The Ovarian Cystoscope (OCT) is a light weight tube about as long as the eyebrow and used most often for endoscopically. A light weight tube that is about the same size as a lipstick tube is attached to the endoscope camera and used to guide the patient throughout the procedure.

Endoscopically, the ovary or any other reproductive organ is viewed with the use of a special scope called an anoscope. A large flexible scope, it is similar in appearance to a medical hand scope. When a cystoscope is used during an ovarian cystoscopy, the healthcare provider will insert both hands into the woman's body through small cuts made in the skin of the abdomen. The scope is connected to a computer via an Ethernet cable, and then the computer maps the areas of interest while a tube is inserted into one of the woman's urinary tract passages.
