The aluminum laminated films are used for packaging lithium ion batteries (LIBs).

The films developed by Showa are made of a composite material of resin film and aluminum foil.

When compared with either cylindrical type or prism type metallic LIBs, the aluminum-laminated film-based pouch type LIBs provide higher flexibility in molding, lighter weight, and better heat dissipation.

With the expansion, the company has increased its production by three times compared to 2010 production.

The demand for aluminum laminated films for LIB packaging is on the rise and its market is expected to touch JPY25bn ($245.9m) in 2015.

The group plans to work to maintain its market share and further improve the product quality in the market for aluminum laminated films that are used for LIB.

Showa also aims to ensure stable supply of its products to meet the growing demand for LIBs.
